Otterbein is an historic residential community in downtown
Baltimore, Maryland. Located a few blocks west of the Inner
Harbor, Otterbein includes about a dozen blocks from Sharp
eastward to Charles and from Conway south to Henrietta.
The neighborhood began in the mid-1800's as a home to those
working in the shipping trades. The buildings survived the
great fire of 1904 and the area became a destination for
European immigrants. Following a gradual decline in the
1950's and 1960's, the neighborhood was renewed beginning
in the late 1970's. Today, the community offers a mix of
old and new homes that are convenient to the central
business district, to public and highway transportation, to
two major league stadiums, and to the arts and
entertainment venues of adjacent neighborhoods.
